Newsom's bold move / Bush's stance led mayor to act now An informative article on how San Francisco started issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples.
The Littlest Groom. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm not surprised that it's airing on Fox, the network that brought you Temptation Island and other reality TV show crap. I saw the groom, Glen Foster, on On-air with Ryan Seacrest, and he hinted that he found "a compatible woman."
*I'm not what the right term is, so I'll use "little people" and apologize in advance if I'm incorrect.*
I don't think it's hard to see the controversy this show is having. Does it make a mockery of little people? Is the show making caricatures out of them? Why have "women of average height" to compete for his love as well? Wouldn't the introduction of average height women (AHW) compel him to pick one of them instead of a little person? Glen, 23, seems genuinely happy about the show. I seem to think that the show is a parody, especially with the inclusion of AHW, which reminds me of Boy Meets Boy where they added straight guys into the mix. It doesn't seem fair. Plus, I'm left to wonder if the AHW really wants to date a Glen. Are they sincere? Or do they just want to be on TV?
I'm incredibly weary of any type of reality dating/marriage/finding the one type of show because I don't think it's realistic. Additionally, the idea of having a show to include little people just seems wrong. Not that they don't deserve to find love also, but it's more about shock value than sincerity on Fox's part. I could go on to say, what's next? When will we run out of bad ideas?
It seems like the only time the little people are there to entertain us somehow, and we poke fun at them for being so different. For me, it just doesn't seem right.
I can't end without mentioning Barbie's split from Ken. How traumatic must it be for a child to hear this. Gosh, I'm relieved I'm not 10 anymore, and my days of playing house with Barbie are long gone. However, I do hold those memories very close to my heart. And I hope Barbie and Ken will find happiness even though its not with each other.
