Wife beaters in class: appropriate or not?

One of the teachers went up to a student, who had a wife beater on, and asked him something like, "Do you have another shirt to put on over the top." I’m not sure of the exact words or phrases involved. I was a few seats away and heard snippets of their conversation. Essentially, she thought wearing a wife beater to class was disrespectful, lacking in manners, and looked like he just rolled out of bed etc... He was stunned and, to a certain extent, outraged by the suggestion. He kept repeating something like, "Are you serious" or "I can't believe this" etc... It went on for a few minutes, more words were exchanged, and I guess the student decided he had had enough and left the class.

When I first walked in, the wife beater caught my attention too. But I let it go. Obviously she had the same kind of thoughts as me. I knew that other people were like, "What the hell?” "What’s the big deal" kind of puzzled when the teacher and student had their discussion.

Ok to wear: take a look at what some girls come to class dressed as (I mean hookers/whores etc). Springtime's coming up and guess what that means: Mini skirts and tank tops. Have you ever been uncomfortable because there's a girl spilling out of her shirt that somehow manages to come into your vision or even in your peripheral vision? I am. But I'm a girl, I suppose. Still, there's that initial, "OMG/I can't believe what I'm seeing before me reaction." Dude, springtime is ripe for cleavage watching and spotting.

Not Ok to wear: It's a w.i.f.e.b.e.a.t.e.r. Do you know why they call it that? Two guesses. Go ahead...(Hint: See an episode of COPS).
