No story can be told without love. Why are certain stories so compelling? It's that sense of loss, of having lost something you love.
I would go so far as to say that no story can exist without love.
I'm not just talking about epic love stories. I mean love in every sense of the word, little or grand.
Even if the whole stories were about sadness and darkness, it would still be connected to love some how. Even this example shows that sadness comes from not being loved: “He's sad because his father didn't love him as a child. He's this ways because he didn't get enough love from his family.”
Look at Shakespeare. He wrote the most enduring love story of our time: Romeo and Juliet. It's an archetype now. This storyline is being repeating and has been repeated, in perpetual motion, in Hollywood for years. It's compelling.
Want a story idea? What about a love story? I know it evokes sappy images, but it underlines all the things we do.
It drives us and will continually drive us. We haven’t yet learnt how not to love.
It's not just romantic love, but small and big gestures of love. It all counts.
The best idea for a movie? That's where this whole thing came about. As cynical, ironic, sarcastic, and sardonic as I would like to be, a great, tragic love story still brings me to tears. Well, it helps that I'm a crier.
