I've been thinking lately about great movie or TV show ideas, especially since the rise of Josh Schwartz, the mad genius behind The O.C. And the cancellation of Wonderfalls also got me thinking about what it takes to make a successful TV show. Is a great script the only thing needed? A great idea can spark a moneymaker e.g. The O.C. But, Wonderfalls shows that a great idea (I liked it) to one may not be a great idea to all.
So far, I've come up with two main ideas that I think will drive a movie/show. By drive, I mean that it's basic to all successful, well loved, and compelling movies or TV shows. It pretty much guarantees interest.
The basic formula: Love and tragedy.
Both are the basic formula for life as well.
